Signed and inscribed in French and Romanian to fellow Romanian emigré Miron Grindea, editor of the literary journal ADAM International Review: "To Miron Grindea, a friend full of heart, with the most sincere feelings. George Enesco."

Enescu composed his brightly colored Romanian Rhapsodies Nos. 1 and 2 in 1901, both built on authentic folk tunes. They were introduced together in Bucharest on March 18, 1903 when the composer was just 21 years old. The first Rhapsody is probably the composer's most famous and beloved work.
