Large and striking drypoint engraving on japon. Signed and inscribed lower right, 10 May, 1901 to the artist Emile Gaillard and his wife, "pour leur faire oublier son silence." 19.25 x 23.75 inches (49 x 60 cm).

Barbotin was winner of the Premier Grand Prix de Rome de Gravure in 1883 and was a regular exhibitor at the Salon des Artistes Francais, winning the Gold medal there in 1900. He was made Chevalier of the Légion d'honneur in 1903.
