Carter, Elliot. (1908–2012). "8 Etudes and a Fantasy for Woodwind Quartet," Signed Score. New York: Associated Music Publishers. 1959. A nice copy of this score, signed on the titlepage by the composer in person on 21st October 1983 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, South Bank, London. 42 pp. In very fine condition.

Eight Etudes and a Fantasy began as sketches for an instrumentation course Carter was teaching at Columbia University in New York. He had initially written the short pieces to demonstrate to his students the range of possibilities available to woodwind instruments, highlighting this by imposing strict formal conditions upon each etude. Carter later developed the work for use outside of the classroom, creating a piece that has since become part of the standard chamber wind repertoire.
