A few minor stains, overall fine condition.  15.5 x 23 cm. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe \"Niederrheinische Musikfest\" [Lower Renish Music Festival] was one of the most important festivals of classical music, held every year, with few exceptions, between 1818 and 1958 at Whitsun and in a different city and directed by a different artist each time. In 1857, the festival was held in Aachen and was directed by Liszt.  Performances were given on May 31 - June 2, with Liszt conducting a massive group of over 550 players and singers (\"enough to delight Berlioz himself\" according to Liszt!) in works by Beethoven, Handel, Bach, Schubert, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Berlioz, Wagner and Liszt himself.  For a detailed account of Liszt's time at the festival, see Alan Walker \"Franz Liszt: The Weimar Years,\" p. 416 - 422.  \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eLiszt met the author of the present poem, Dr. Joseph Müller  \"on his first day in Aachen.  Müller sent him two volumes of his verses and a little a volume of Catholic verse: Muttergottes Strausslein zum Mai-Monate; Liszt thought enough of the latter to set two of its poems to music during his second trip to Aachen....On the third evening, after Handel's 'Hallelujah Chorus,' Müller  arranged to have about a thousand multicolored sheets, printed with his occasional verse about Liszt and the festival, dropped onto the stage (FLBr IV: 280, 372).
