Caruso, Enrico. (1873-1921). Humorous Signed Postcards. A pair of postcards addressed and written by the great tenor himself and sent to himself at his Milan address from abroad, as was his custom on his many concert tours. One is postmarked Dresden, March 27, 1901. The second is from St. Petersburg, February 18,1900 and includes a hilarious inscription from soprano Elvira Miotti, translated: "Dear Tenor, Remember that water is bad for you and wine makes you love to sing. Ciao, Miotti." Though the inscription is in Miotti's hand, the card is clearly addressed in Caruso's distinctive and humorous hand: "Al Chiarissimo Signor Caruso cav. Enrico / Celeberissimo Tenore / Via Velasca No. 1 Milano (Italia)."

Caruso sang Aida, Un Ballo in Maschera and Maria di Rohan in St. Petersburg between January and March of 1900.
