Boninsegna, Celestina. (1877 - 1947). Rare Autograph and Photograph. Extremely uncommon autograph signature from important Italian Dramatic soprano, "Celestina Boninsegna / Filadelphia Febbruari [sic] / 6-2 / 1907." 9 x 14 cm, elegantly double matted with a reproduction photograph and set in a gold wood frame to 31 x 46 cm overall. A superb example of one of the rarest of all opera autographs.

Celebrated in particular for her interpretations of Verdi heroines, she sang a wide repertoire, though apart from the roles of Santuzza and Tosca, was mostly not heard in the popular verismo roles of the period. She made numerous gramophone records between 1904 and 1918 and her voice was one of the most successfully recorded of those early years. The present autograph was signed during the season in which she made her Metropolitan Opera debut.
