An unusual 1940 commemorative First Day of Issue envelope, bearing the US 5-cent stamp honoring the American composer who at the turn of the 20th century was American’s best-known both at home and abroad. Signed by his wife, Marian MacDowell ("Mrs. Edward MacDowell"). Together with two programs: a small May 13, 1940 program, from MacDowell Day, with photographs of both Marion and Edward and a description of the MacDowell Colony; a 1915 Smith College "Piano Recital of MacDowell Music" performed by Marian MacDowell. 1915 program with several tears, otherwise in fine condition.
