Herbert, Victor. (1859-1924). Early Signed Cabinet Photograph with AMQS. An uncommon early signed Falk of New York cabinet photograph of the American cellist, conductor and composer. Inscribed with a lengthy AMQS in 1894, the year of Herbert's first operetta, Prince Ananias. The photograph shows Herbert dressed in his role as leader of the 22nd Regimental Band of the New York National Guard, a post he assumed after the death of Patrick Gilmore in 1892.
The photograph mount is chipped at the edges and corners, but the photograph, inscription and AMQS are mostly unaffected. Signed photographs of Herbert from this period, before his operettas made him famous, are scarce. This year marks the 150th anniversary of his birth!
