Vandamme "les mirages" real photo postcard portrait of the French jazz guitarist and composer, cigarette between his lips, no. 63, captioned "Djengo Reinhardt" [sic], signed and inscribed in blue ink at lower left: "Pour Hélen / Poutiloff / D. Reinhardt." With scalloped edges. Fine. 3.5 x 5.5 inches; 9 x 13.7 cm. From the autograph collection of Hélène de Poutiloff, who was active in the French Resistance before emigrating to the US in 1953.
One of the most influential guitarists of his time, Reinhardt created the “hot” jazz style of guitar playing after two fingers of his fretting hand were paralyzed in a caravan fire. With Stéphane Grappelli he founded the Quintette du Hot Club de France in 1934. He died in 1953 at the age of 43.
