Landberg, Nils. (1907-1991). Orrefors Sommerso Bowl-Dish.

A heavy sommerso dish of green and dark blue and black cased with clear glass, designed by Nils Landberg for Orrefors Sweden. This example signed to base: 'Orrefors N 4137(or 9)-320. Some light scratches, otherwise in fine condition. 5.75” in diameter and 1,3/8th” high. Weighs 2lbs, 6 oz.

From 1980 onwards, two initials were used, e.g.: NL, allowing us to date this to before that year. Nils Landberg studied at the Industrial Design School in Gothenberg before joining Orrefors in 1925. He worked for them until his retirement in 1972. He is best known for his tulip glass goblets on tall, improbably thin looking stems but designed a full range of glass items for Orrefors. His work is held in museums worldwide.
