Porter, Cole. (1891–1964). "Bits of Melody from...'Leave it to Me'" - SIGNED.
An unusual signed item from the celebrated composer, being the rear back cover page (1 page only!) of his song "My Heart Belongs to Daddy," featuring four incipits from Leave It to Me! , the 1938 musical with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. Boldly signed with his name alone in fountain pen ink. Some staining along the upper edge, a little wrinkled, else fine.
Set in Stalinist Russia in the 1930s, with Stalin himself appearing at the end, its comic treatment of Soviets and Nazis seemed misplaced during the Cold War, and the show was not revived until the late 1980s. Mary Martin made her Broadway debut in this musical, which introduced the celebrated songs "Get Out of Town" and "My Heart Belongs to Daddy."
