Kelly, Michael. (1762-1826). Fine 1788 Stipple Engraving of the famed Mozart Creator. Wonderful early image of the important Irish tenor, composer, theatre manager and music publisher. Kelly worked with many important contemporaries, but is most remembered for his close association with Mozart, who wrote the roles of Don Basilio and Don Curzio for him.

The engraving, 9 X 16 cm, was published in 1788 by W. Lowndes and shows Kelly in costume as Lionel in Dibdin's "Lionel & Clarissa." It was in this role that he made his Drury Lane debut in 1787, introducing an original duet which Nancy Storace had orchestrated after the two great singers had only recently returned from Vienna. In excellent condition.
