A very unusual photograph of a letter addressed to Gigli, with the press clipping on the verso: "Gigli Menaced by Black Hand," describing the letter which was made public by Gigli. "The letter is written in Italian, and considered a black hand attempt. The note demands that Gigli pay $500 protection in order to prevent threatened vengeance. Fear that members of this supposed black hand would make an attempt of the tenor's life has caused the police to establich a night and day guard over his home."

This very unusual photograph is sold together with two fine portraits of the great Italian tenor, one by Carlo Edwards and one by G. Maillard-Kesslere, both of New York. 8 x 10 inches (20 x 25 cm). Slight wrinkling, some show through to two from affixed clippings on verso, else fine.
