Fétis, Francois-Joseph. (1784-1871). Autograph Letter on Behalf of Dupont.

1 page. On letterhead of the Conservatoire Royal de Musique - Cabinet du Directeur. Dated Bruxelles, 4 February, 1861. Addressed to "Monsieur Orsini." In French, a letter requesting him to have the "extreme generosity" to accord a leave of absence to Monsieur Dupont, for which his is required for something "for which he is indispensable." Edges a little rough, margins toned, mounting strip to verso, else fine.

As a musicologist, critic, teacher and composer, Fetis was among the most influential musical figures in continental Europe for most of the 19th century. He founded the Revue Musicale in 1827 and it was the first serious paper in France devoted exclusively to musical matters. The letter mostly likely either concerns the Belgian violinist, leader, theatre director (manager) and conductor Joseph Dupont or his brother, the pianist and composer Auguste Dupont.
