[FILM] Brakhage, Stan. (1933 - 2003); Brakhage, Jane. [Bidart, Frank. (b. 1939)]. Metaphors on Vision (Film Culture No. 30, Fall 1963) - Ex Frank Bidart. New York: Film Culture Inc.. 1963.

Uncommon issue of FILM CULTURE with a collection of Stan Brakhage's writings on film. Black and white photograph illustrations throughout, with a lengthy question and answer between Brakhage and the issue's editor, P. Adams Sitney as introduction. Pressed cardboard wraps designed by George Maciunas, a stunningly artful production with textured covers and spine, hole at front cover revealing negative image of Brakhage's eye at front endpaper. 4to. Stapled textured cardboard wraps. Minor wear to corners; otherwise clean and sharp. Lacking the original printed wraparound band, otherwise a well preserved example of this fragile production.

"Here is METAPHORS ON VISION: it is a collection of writings on the film and, in particular, on the film as Stan Brakhage sees and makes it. Yet more significantly it is a testament of what makes mythopoeic art. Mythopoeia is the often attempted and seldom achieved result of making a myth new or making a new myth." (Introduction by P. Adams Sitney, first paragraph)

From the library of the important American poet Frank Bidart, who received the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, the Griffin Poetry Prize Lifetime Recognition Award, and the 2017 National Book Award for Poetry for his book Half-light: Collected Poems 19652016. His signature of ownership is on the final page.
