Furtwängler, Wilhelm. (1886-1954). Autograph Signature with Photograph.

Boldly penned autograph signature "Wilhelm Furtwängler" on a large autograph sheet, additionally inscribed and signed on the verso by violinist Jacques Thibaud, adding the date and location of 1932, Strasbourg. Together with a period postcard portrait of the German conductor and composer (postmarked 1953 and with autograph letter in an unidentified hand on verso). Autograph sheet measures 4.7 x 7 inches; 12 x 18 cm. Fine. 

Furtwängler had a long history in Strasbourg. When Hans Pfitzner took over the directorship of the Strasbourg Opera in 1911, he had appointed Furtwängler as the third conductor. At the time of the present autograph, he had returned to the city with the Berlin Philharmonic for a Festival at the Palais des Fêtes.
