Furtwängler had a long history in Strasbourg. When Hans Pfitzner took over the directorship of the Strasbourg Opera in 1911, he had appointed Furtwängler as the third conductor. At the time of the present autograph, he had returned to the city with the Berlin Philharmonic for a Festival at the Palais des Fêtes.
