By the start of the 20th century, it was internationally renowned, not just for 18th and 19th century music but as a champion and publisher of contemporary works. \u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eRudolph E. Schirmer (1859 - 1919) and his brother, Gustave, \u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003emanaged the business jointly at the time of the present inscription, and did so until Gustave's sudden death in 1907.
