Paderewski, Ignace Jan. (1860-1941). Autograph Note on Mourning Stationery .

Autograph note from the great Polish pianist, composer and statesman who was prime minister and foreign minister of the Polish Republic (1919). Darkly penned in black ink on black-bordered mourning stationery (5 x 4 inches; 12.5 x 10.3 cm), "I.J. Paderewski [PRINTED] expresses profound gratitude for the sympathy shown to him." Together with a postcard photograph 3 x 5.25 inches (8.4 x 13.3 cm).

A note presumably written after the death of one of his wives, though it is not known which. He married his first wife (Antonina Korsakówna) in 1880, but she died in 1881 due to complications from childbirth, shortly after their son Alfred was born. His second wife (Helena Paderewska) passed away on January 16, 1934, at their home, Riond-Bosson in Switzerland.
