Octavo.  55 p.  Lithographed.  PN 3663.  The print is based on engraved plates, with handwritten marks added at the lithographic stage.  With program from a concert at the Northern School of Music [Manchester], May 24, 1966, laid in.  Title inscribed by the composer in blue ink: "Michael [Kennedy] / f[rom] RVW."  Original wrappers.  10 x 7 inches (25.5 x 18 cm).  Slightly foxed; spine frayed; else in very good condition.

The title page identifies Sancta Civitas as "An Oratorio for Tenor and Baritone Soli, Chorus, Semi-Chorus, Distant Chorus and Orchestra. The Words from the Authorized Version [of the Bible] (with additions from 'Taverner's Bible' and other sources)."  The critic Michael Kennedy, to whom the present copy is inscribed, calls the work "an homage to Bach from the twentieth century" in his 1964 book on Vaughan Williams.
