He began his career as a pianist and vocal coach; notably serving as an accompanist for prestigious artists such as \u003c\/span\u003eJoseph Szigeti\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003e, \u003c\/span\u003eGregor Piatigorsky\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003e, and \u003c\/span\u003eLauritz Melchior\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003e among other soloists. In 1926, at the age of 17, his two piano sonatas won the \u003c\/span\u003eMendelssohn Prize\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003e. In 1934, Strasfogel was forced to emigrate from \u003c\/span\u003eNazi Germany\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003e to the United States.
