Brahms also offered Schumann's \u003ci style=\"\"\u003eDavidsbündlertänze\u003c\/i\u003e, op. 6, later in the program.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003eThe performers included several of Brahms' friends: concert baritone Julius Stockhausen and Wiener Staatsoper stalwart Gustav Walter (both of whom would later premiere Brahms' Lieder); young soprano Rosa Girzik (who would apply to Brahms for help during a period of financial difficulty); Stockhausen pupil Helene Magnus; and Croatian pianist Julius Epstein.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv style=\"\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003eBrahms first moved to Vienna in 1862 and quickly earned a good reputation amongst the city's musical elite as an up-and-coming composer and skilled pianist. He became director of the Gesellschaft concerts in 1872.
