A photograph taken by Moritz Nähr in 1907 shows the composer in the foyer of the Vienna Opera House, where he was Director from 1897, wearing the same suit and rimless glasses. In November 1907, Mahler conducted for the last time in Vienna before moving to the Metropolitan Opera in New York in January 1908.
