[Italian Opera] Leoncavallo, Ruggero. (1857–1919) & Toscanini, Arturo. (1867–1957) & Sammarco, Mario. (1868–1930) & Storchio, Rosina. (1872–1945) & Garbin, Edoardo. (1865–1943). "Zaza"—Signed Postcard. Postcard promoting Leoncavallo's 1900 opera Zazà, signed by the composer, the conductor (Toscanini) and the three singers (Storchio, Sammarco and Garbin) in the main roles and addressed to Giuseppe Mangiarotti, London, England.  Dated Odessa, January 12, 1904 (postmarked January 31).  The printed graphic on the card (issued by Aliprandi, Milan) features photographs of the signers as vignettes, a musical quotation, etc.  Short note by Garbin between the signed vignettes, translated from the Italian: "All signatures are authentic. Regards and affectionate kisses."  Oblong format, 3.5 x 5.5 inches (9.2 x 14 cm).  In very good condition.

A rather original item, not least because of the place from which it was sent.  It appears that the original cast of the opera, which was first performed at the Teatro lirico in Milan in 1900, gave a guest performance in what was then one of the largest cities of the Russian Empire (larger than Kiev/Kiyiv) and boasted a world-famous opera house.

Of further note is the quite rare signature of Rosina Storchio, Italian lyric soprano who also created many Puccini, Leoncavallo, and Mascagni roles, and who was the first Madame Butterfly at La Scala.
