An extraordinary so-called "music quilt" using abstracted note shapes in a strikingly "modern" design, composed of pieced cotton, circa 1950, by one Mrs. Herring of Miscanopy Florida. 57 x 59 inches (144.8 x 149.9 cm) EXHIBITED: The Webber Center Gallery, 2006; LITERATURE: African-American Quilts of Florida from the collection of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne LeCount Tyson II, Ocala, Florida, 2006, p. 31.
Quilt exhibits wear-through of many front blocks. Ground is stable. Separation of binding at portion of left edge. Single repair batch to reverse. General age related discoloration In overall good condition, one small area of wear-through to top layer of fabric on front, small areas of discoloration throughout. Minor edge wear throughout commensurate with age and use. Textile is stable and without shatter.
