Dorsey, Tommy. (1905–1956) & Edwards Sisters. Candid Photograph.
Original postcard format photograph of the trombonist and bandleader playing his instrument and the sisters looking on.  Manuscript caption to left margin identifying the depicted persons.  Manuscript date in the same hand, "Aug[ust] 29, 1947," to verso. 3 x 5.5 inches (8 x 13.8 cm).  Remnants of earlier mounting to verso; else in fine condition.

The Edwards Sisters (named Ruth and Louise) were a tap-dancing duo originating from Chicago.  Their career began in the mid-1930s and lasted until about 1949.  They performed in New York City and around the U.S. throughout the 1940s.  Although they must have been relatively well-known then, their lives before and after, including their birth and death dates, are shrouded in mystery.
