Grumiaux, Arthur. (1921–1986) & Witkowski, Jean. (1895–1953). Signed Program. Signed program of a concert of the Association Philharmonique of Lyon, France, December 5, 1948. The signature of the Belgian violinist and conductor is on the first page (not counting the cover), above the program listing. There is a second signature next to it, probably reading "Witkowski" (Jean Witkowski was the conductor). 8.5 x 5.5 inches (21.0 x 13.5 cm). Horizontal fold; slightly browned; else in fine condition.
"Grumiaux's high reputation has been enhanced by numerous recordings including unaccompanied Bach sonatas, famous sets of Mozart and Beethoven sonatas in partnership with Clara Haskil, Mozart concertos, and Beethoven string trios performed by the ensemble he formed with Georges Janzer (viola) and Eva Czako (cello). His playing combined purity, strength and classical elegance with a disciplined fire." Robert Crichton in Grove Music Online
Jean Witkowski was the son of the composer and conductor Georges-Martin Witkowski (1867–1943). He spent most of his life in Lyon, where his father had settled in 1924, and took over the local orchestra from his father after the latter's death.
