"Capoul studied at the Paris Conservatoire, making his début with the Opéra-Comique in 1861 as Daniel (Adam’s Le chalet). Engaged by J. H. Mapleson in London, he appeared first in Faust at Drury Lane in 1871. He made his Covent Garden début as Fra Diavolo in 1877. Pierre Petit was the official photographer of the 1867 Paris World Fair. He is noted for the photographic documentation of the construction of the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower. In 1898 he became a pioneer of underwater photography.
