[Amiens, France]. Concert Programs, 1842-5. Interesting pair of programs, providing a rare glimpse of the musical scene of a provincial town in northern France. As follows:

Single sheet program for a musical matinee of the Société philharmonique of Amiens, France, December 4, 1842.  8 x 6.5 inches (20.3 x 16.3 cm).  Horizontal fold and some creases; in fine condition.
The program consists of excerpts from operas by Rossini, Bellini, Weber (overture to Euryanthe), Donizetti and Auber, instrumental solos, and songs (romances) and is probably typical of its time and place.  The performers are probably locals; the best-known may be the flutist Jules Deneux, who performed a Fantaisie by his teacher Jean-Louis Tulou.  No conductor is named.

Single sheet program for a choral-orchestral concert of the Société philharmonique of Amiens, France, February 24, 1845.  8 x 6 inches (20.6 x 14.5 cm).  Right edge creased; slight loss to lower left corner; no loss to content.
The program is very mixed and probably typical of its time and place.  It includes Beethoven's Fidelio overture, excerpts from operas by Rossini, Auber and Halévy, a Grand Morceau for piano and string quartet by Czerny, etc.  For most of the many performers, only initials are given; one of the few whose name is spelled out is the composer-violoncellist Désiré Mohr (1825-1917).  The conductor's name is given as Thonon (no first name).
