He was a pupil of \u003c\/span\u003eLeopold Auer\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003e from 1925 and studied at the \u003c\/span\u003eCurtis Institute of Music\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003e from 1928 to 1936, continuing his studies with \u003c\/span\u003eEfrem Zimbalist\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003e after Auer's death in 1930. His New York debut was in 1934 and his Vienna debut was in 1936.
