Handel, George Frederic. (1685-1759). "Duetti del Sig. Hendell" - 18th C. Manuscript.. Bound oblong quarto. One signature of 8 bifolia. Upper edge cut, outer and lower edges uncut. Hand-ruled, laid paper with 10 staves (left blank on the final leaf) and manuscript in the hand of an unidentified 18th century copyist. Partly illegible note "Coeli" [?] to title page (copyist's signature?). No pagination. 8.75 x 12 inches (22 x 30 cm). In very fine condition, a rare early manuscript.

The collection includes 3 duets for two voices with bass:
[HWV 194] "Sono liete fortunate"; voices labeled "Soprani" and written in soprano clef, but second part is actually for contralto.
[HWV 198] "Troppo cruda troppo fiera"; no new voice labels; again, both are written in soprano clef, but second part is actually for contralto.
[HWV 184] "Che vai pensando folle pensier"; Soprano and Basso.

All duets are notated on three staves (two vocal parts and figured bass). Key signatures are given only at the beginning of a piece or section (double bar). The first two duets are believed to have been composed in Hanover around 1710; the third, in Italy in 1708. They are not part of any opera. Some music from "Sono liete fortunate" made a comeback in the overture of Judas Maccabeus (HWV 63).
