Autograph manuscript in the hand of an unidentified copyist. Disbound oblong quarto. Bifolium with 12 staves to both sides. Ascription to "D'alvimare" to title. Music on fol. 1v and 2r; fol. 2v blank. E-flat major, time signature "3" (reflecting French 18th-century practice). Strophe 1 as text underlay, strophes 2 and 3 as residual text. 8.5 x 11.5 inches (21 x 29 cm). Some bleeding; gutter damp stained. Otherwise in fine condition.

Dalmivare (also spelled "D'Almivare") is best known for his numerous works for the harp. No publication of the present romance has been verified. Another manuscript copy, with the title, "Marguerite de Navarre à son ménéstrel après la bataille de Pavie : romance, paroles de Mr. A.F. de Coupigny, musique de P. D'Alvivre [sic]," is at Harvard University (shelf mark French 181u); it is tentatively dated to the 1810s. The text is by André-François de Coupigny (1766-1833).
