"María Isabel Curubeto Godoy (San Juan de la Frontera, 1896 - Buenos Aires, August 25, 1959) was an Argentine pianist and composer.  Born to musician parents as a child she displayed exceptional gifts before Puccini, who recommended her in writing, obtaining for her a scholarship from the national government to study in Milan.  She took advantage of her stay in Europe to study piano in Vienna with Leschetizky, and in Rome with Sgambati.  However, she abandoned her activity as a concert pianist to devote herself exclusively to composing opera.  She also taught piano at the University of La Plata.  In 1946 her opera Paolo e Virginia (Pablo and Virginia) was premiered at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.  This opera was the first stage work by a woman composer to be premiered in that hall."  After Spanish Wikipedia
