Joachim, Joseph. (1831-1907). Joachim and Family - Collection of original photographs. An intriguing collection of seven original photographic portraits of Joachim and his family, including a cabinet photograph by Schaarwächter of Berlin with his wife Amalie, a Window & Grove of London CDV bust portrait of Joseph Joachim alone, one unidentified CDV portrait, two CDVs of their two sons Johannes and Hermann and two CDVs of their daughters Marie and Josepha, each pair by Loescher & Petsch and Schaarwächter, both of Berlin. Some inscriptions on the reverse of the photographs in other hands, 1873-1874, where dated, a few small stains, else fine.
The great Hungarian violinist and composer was probably second only to Paganini among 19th-century virtuosi, and was the dedicatee of the Brahms Concerto and many other works.
