Large original pencil sketch by Dorothea Ahrens of the American actress and singer known for her distinctive, powerful voice and leading roles in musical theatre. Merman has signed and inscribed in fountain pen, "To Dorothea Ahrens, In sincere appreciation, Ethel Merman." Also signed and dated by the artist in ink, "D. A. Ahrens, 1943." In fine condition. Off-white cardstock sheet, 12 x 16 inches (30.5 x 40.6 cm.), matted to an overall size of 16 x 20 inches (40.6 x 50.8 cm.). Ahrens made numerous sketches of entertainers throughout the 1940s and 1950s, and was highly successful in having her subjects autograph them.
