Uncommon original albumen copy print of the great violinist by the important British portrait photographer, mounted to paperboard, 1868 (Cox and Ford 696). Irregularly trimmed, 3.25 x 2.75 inches (8.3 x 7 cm.), mounted to an overall size of 10.75 x 13.6 inches (27.3 x 34.5 cm.).  Provenance: Buhl Collection; Jane Corkin Gallery, Toronto, 1996. 

Joseph Joachim was among the most renowned concert violinists of the19th century, credited with restoring Bach’s sonatas and partitas to the contemporary violin repertoire, and for promoting the career of composer Johannes Brahms.  Cameron took at least five portraits of Joachim in March and April 1868 (Cox and Ford 693-6).
