Oblong folio, approx. 13.5 x 11 inches. Central vertical crease, light stains to title, else fine throughout. Contained in a decorative wicker and colorful interior folder.  Rare. \u003c\/span\u003eWe have traced no autograph manuscripts by Adam on the market in over a dozen years.\u003cdiv\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\u003cp style=\"\"\u003eThe French composer, teacher and music critic\u003cspan style=\"\"\u003e ranks with Auber and Boieldieu as one of the creators of French opera, thanks to the expressive power of his melodic material and his keen sense of dramatic development, and is b\u003c\/span\u003eest known today for his ballets \u003ci style=\"\"\u003eGiselle\u003c\/i\u003e (1841) and \u003ci style=\"\"\u003eLe corsaire\u003c\/i\u003e (1856), his operas \u003ci style=\"\"\u003eLe postillon de Lonjumeau\u003c\/i\u003e (1836) and \u003ci style=\"\"\u003eSi j'étais roi\u003c\/i\u003e (1852) and his Christmas carol \"Minuit, chrétiens!\" (Midnight, Christians, 1844, known in English as \"O Holy Night\"). In the year prior to the present manuscript, his first grand opera, \u003ci style=\"\"\u003eRichard en Palestine\u003c\/i\u003e, was produced at the Opéra and in that year was elected to membership of the Académie des Beaux-Arts.  But in 1845 François-Louis Crosnier, director of the Opéra-Comique, resigned and was succeeded by Alexandre Basset who soon fell out with Adam and told him that as long as he was director, Adam's works would never be performed at the Opéra-Comique.
