Fosse, Bob. (1927–1987) & Niles, Mary Ann. (1923–1987). Signed Photograph of the Dance Partners in Mid-Leap.

Signed photograph of the once-married dancers in mid-leap, Niles's foot just barely missing Fosse's inscription "Sincere best wishes, / Bob Fosse" above her own signature. Very fine. 8 x 10 inches; 20.3 x 25.4 cm.

Mary Ann Niles was Bob Fosse's first dance partner, and the two married in 1947. Fosse's personal life was famously tumultuous, and he ultimately left Niles for Joan McCracken in 1951, whom he first met while he and Niles were specialty dancers on the set of 1949's Dance Me a Song.

From the collection of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon's stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy's Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications.
