Curry, Tim. (1946–2026). "The Shout" - Signed and Inscribed Promotional Photograph.

Signed Osprey Films promotional photograph of the English actor in costume for Jerzy Skolimowski's 1979 horror film The Shout, inscribed "To Paul, / Thanks / Tim Curry" in black ink. One-inch tear to right edge, else fine. 8 x 10 inches; 20.3 x 25.4 cm.

Curry is perhaps best remembered as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, the self-described "sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania," a role he created on stage in Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show at London's Royal Court Theatre Upstairs in 1973 and immortalized in the 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Swaggering in corset, fishnets and pearls, his Frank-N-Furter turned a modest box-office failure into the defining midnight movie: audiences returned week after week in costume, the film became the longest-running theatrical release in history, and the character endures as an icon of camp and queer culture. Curry went on to play Mozart in the Broadway premiere of Amadeus (1980), earning a Tony nomination, the butler Wadsworth in Clue (1985) and Pennywise in Stephen King's It (1990).

From the collection of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon's stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy's Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications.
