Sumptuously printed Erio Piccagliani photograph of the legendary diva and the great conductor backstage at La Scala for a 1954 production of Lucia di Lammermoor, Callas in costume as Lucia Ashton. A later matte print on double weight paper, copyright sticker to verso. Together with La Scala Shop folder. Very fine. 7 x 7.5 inches; 17.8 x 19 cm.
Karajan both conducted and staged the La Scala Lucia, which opened in January 1954; the production later travelled to Berlin and Vienna, and the 1955 Berlin performance became one of the most celebrated of all Callas recordings.
