Signed photograph of the German conductor and pianist, who has inscribed "Wolfgang Sawallisch / to Paul / with my best wishes and greetings / Boston, Massachusetts" in black ink to the lower right.  "Vienna Symphony / Wolfgang Sawallisch, Conductor" stamp to verso.  Very fine condition.  8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm.).

Sawallisch served as Principal Conductor of the Vienna Symphony throughout the 1960s.  Over the course of his long career, he worked with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Bavarian State Opera, and the Philadelphia Orchestra.

From the collection of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy’s Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications.
