Signed photograph of the French orchestra leader, who has inscribed "Pour Paul / Amicalement / Paul Mauriat" in black ink to the lower left.  Stamp to verso reads "Paul Mauriat and his Orchestra."  Light smudging to signature, else in very fine condition.  8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm.).

Mauriat released a series of instrumental pop albums throughout the 1960s.  As a recording artist, he is best remembered for his 1968 song "Love Is Blue."  He also found great success as a songwriter.  "Chariot," a European hit he co-authored in 1962, was given English lyrics and released in 1963 by Little Peggy March as "I Will Follow Him," an international smash.

From the collection of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy’s Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications.
