Short, Bobby. (1924–2005). Signed Photograph.
Signed bust portrait photograph of the American cabaret singer and pianist who specialized in interpreting the works of popular songwriters from the first half of the 20th century.  Short has boldly inscribed "To Paul / all best / Bobby Short" in black to the upper left.  Two small unobtrusive tears to right margin, image unaffected, else in fine condition.  8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm.).

Bobby Short left home for a career as a busker in Chicago at just 11 years old, finding great success as a touring cabaret performer.  He was known to perform impromptu all-night sets at his favorite restaurants and cafés around New York, and was a 35-year fixture at the Café Carlyle from 1968 until 2004.  In 2000, Short was named a Living Legend by the Library of Congress.

From the collection of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy’s Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications.
