Scheide founded the Bach Aria Group in 1946, with the specific intention of bringing increased awareness to Bach's cantatas. Membership changed over the years, and in 1980 Scheide announced his intentions to disband the ensemble. Flutist Samuel Baron, who joined in 1965, asked if he could instead take over leadership, and Scheide agreed. The ensemble continued to perform through at least 2012.

From the collection of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon's stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy's Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0512/4826/7423/files/Bach_Aria_Group_Signed_Photograph_20722.jpg?v=1722190149
https://www.schubertiademusic.com/products/20722-bach-aria-group-shumsky-oscar-greenhouse-bernard-photograph-signed-by-ten-members-including-shumsky-and-greenhouse
