Very fine original Graf y Kitzler of Buenos Aires sepia portrait photograph of the important composer and conductor, shown seated holding a cigarette, who has inscribed to musicologist Johannes Franze on the mount: "Den hapferen Vorkämpfer Johannes Franze / freundschaftlich ergeben / Richard Strauss / Buenos Aires 26.8.23" ("to the courageous champion Johannes Franze / amicably devoted / Richard Strauss").  The photographer has also signed and dated to the lower left corner of the image.  Photograph measures 7.1 x 9.75 inches (18 x 24.8 cm.), the photographer's mount measuring overall 10 x 14.75 inches (25.4 x 37.4 cm.).

In the summer of 1923, Richard Strauss traveled with the Vienna Philharmonic to Buenos Aires, where he led them in a series of orchestral performances and performances of his operas Salome (seven performances between June 26 and July 20) and Elektra (six performances between July 6 and August 9).
