Liszt, Franz. (1811–1886). Collection of Carte de Visite Photographs.
Remarkable collection of fifteen original CDV photographs and one postcard photograph of the legendary pianist and composer.  A few examples slightly trimmed, some with mounting remnants/losses to verso, overall in fine condition.  Two additional CDVs are also included (thus seventeen in total), these evidently once considered to have been portraits of Liszt but which are not in fact images of the composer. Varying in size, smallest 2.4 x 3.75 inches (6.1 x 9.5 cm.); largest 3.5 x 5.5 inches (8.9 x 14 cm.).

This is an exceptional collection of portraits of Liszt, spanning from the period of some his earliest portraits in the photographic medium through to his later years and including a wide assortment of examples from important photographers. The collection includes original photographs by Canzi Es Heller (Pesten), Ghemar Freres (Bruxelles), Gerschel Freres (Strasbourg), Hanfstaengel (Munchen), Fritz Luckhardt (Wien), Ganz (Bruxelles), Numa Blanc (Paris), Oscar Kamer (Wien), Pierre Petit (Paris).
