Born in Italy, Ciccolini became a naturalized French citizen in 1971. He enjoyed a long and successful career, and became well-known as an interpreter and advocate of French composers, including less well-known composers such as Déodat de Séverac, Jules Massenet, and Jean-Marc Savelli.
