Weingartner, Felix. (1863–1942). Terra: Ein Symbol. SIGNED.. Potsdam: Verlag Müller & Kiepenheuer. 1933. First Limited Edition. Terra: Ein Symbol. Prolog/Drei Spiele/Epilog. 578 pp. Signed copy number 15 of only 100 examples. In very good condition. A rare item from the Austrian conductor, composer and pianist who studied with Liszt. A beautiful volume, in marbled boards and gilt-stamped leather label at spine. Threads holding the folios to binding are loose, otherwise very good overall.

In addition to being one of the great conductors of the 20th century, Weingartner was, to quote his pupil, Josef Krips: "a genuinely cultivated personality, broadly informed, with an expert knowledge of literature and painting...an ardent patron of the theatre and...celebrated as a gourmet and excellent amateur cook." At the age of 70, Weingartner published "Terra," a vast dramatic work which he had worked on sporadically for nearly half a century.
