He created the role of Benvenuto Cellini in Berlioz's opera of the same name and took part in the premieres of Donizetti's \u003ci style=\"\"\u003eLucia di Lammermoor \u003c\/i\u003eand \u003ci style=\"\"\u003eLa favorita. \u003c\/i\u003eHis own opera \u003ci style=\"\"\u003eJeanne d'Arc, \u003c\/i\u003eone of quite a few, was staged in Paris in 1865 without success.
