Geldzahler met British artist David Hockney at Andy Warhol's New York apartment in the 1960's.  They became close friends and travel companions, sharing a sense of humor, interests, and many similar life experiences.  Through their friendship, Geldzahler and his partner became the subjects of numerous works by Hockney.
