Massenet, Jules. (1842-1912). Autograph Musical Quotation from Gounod's "Mireille.". An unusual AMQS, where one great French opera composer has penned measures from another great French opera composer's music! On an 8vo page, Massenet has penned three measures "Chantez, Chantez, Maximilienn...!", written "in memory of the adorable performance of the measures of Mireille!!" Below, he has signed "Massenet. Montpellier, 12 January 1900." Presumably, the quotation is from Gounod's "Mireille," the opening chorus of which is "Chantez, chantez Magnanarelles."
